Gaston – Ghent

The last couple of years, Gaston, has always been the place to be in summer for refreshing cocktails with a wonderful view on Ghent. Luckily for us Ghentians, that wasn’t different this year! After already spending some lovely moments there this summer, I was very excited to stumble upon an Instagram competition on their page to win an all-in dinner for two at Gaston. All you had to do was regram one of their pics onto your account, and let’s be honest, with all the yummy foodpics and lovely interior shots, that was a piece of cake. So…guess what friends, I’ve won!! Hooray! So thank you Coeur Catering! And thank you Gaston, for having E. and me over yesterday.

As E. and I are big G&T lovers we started the night off with some tapas and a lovely gin produced by the bar itself. We ordered the Belgian endive with goat cheese and the crunchy deep-fried meatballs with pickles which I love soooooooo very much!

The cuisine at Gaston is typical Belgian, brought with a modern twist. However for their daily suggestions they find the inspiration into other cuisines. Which is amazing if you ask me, because then you have the best of both worlds. For starter I had the Sashimi of salmon, cod and another fish (I didn’t take a picture of the suggestions board, so I forgot the name, silly me). As a main dish I picked the “Vol au vent” with BELGIAN FRIES (My sincere apologies to the French people, but we make the best fries in the world, so I refuse to call them French fries). And for dessert: Moelleux au chocolat, what else … My taughts on the entire menu: MMMMMM….

I really love the ambiance and atmosphere at Gaston, not only are you dining in a very lovely setting, think one of the nicest views in Ghent and a lovely modern interior, but the staff makes you feel very welcome! And for me that’s one of the most important things in the dining experience! Sure the most important thing is the food, but still if the people aren’t nice, I’m not very eager to go back. But at Gaston that is definitely not the case, the service goes smoothly, and they do it with the biggest smiles on their faces and a friendly word for every guest. I really feel like summer nights at Gaston are the best, playing petanque with friends while sipping on their homemade Ginto’s, enjoying yummy tapas and food… But unfortunately as the summer holiday in Belgium officially has come to an end, so has the Gaston Pop-up. But hey, I’m already looking forward to some amazing summer nights next year. So, shall we say summer 2018, cocktails at Gaston?

Although I was a guest of Coeur Catering & Gaston; just like always, all opinions are my own.
